Simple Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a technique that has been proven to effectively help people cope with fear, anger, anxiety, and depression.

Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress. It allows one to cultivate connections and experience thoughts and emotions with greater balance and acceptance. Simply said, Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment, in a non-judgmental manner.
We are living in a time where it is easy to feel overwhelmed and discouraged. Our everyday life tends to be full of problems and challenges and many of us have lost sight of living a joyful life.  By implementing a “mindful” approach, we maintain a moment-to-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations while observing them free of judgment. When we practice mindfulness, we can transform our lives.
New studies are being published almost daily, confirming just how beneficial mindfulness practice is to the health of our body and mind.

Here is a basic mindfulness meditation:
Sitting quietly in an upright position, feet planted on the floor, spine straight, begin to pay attention to your natural breathing.

Observe your breath as you inhale and exhale. You will notice your mind start to veer into habitual “thinking” mode.

As your mind wanders, simply notice it, then bring your attention back to your breathing.

Mindfulness trains your mind to be less distracted and instead, more present and aware.

Try practicing for a few minutes every day. You can also practice Mindful Walking, an exercise that brings awareness to each step and breath. As you find yourself getting caught up in a thought, direct your focus back to your breath and the movement of your foot hitting the ground and lifting up. Mindful walking can be practiced anywhere and can help you to feel more grounded, balanced, and serene.
